Briana Trujillo

Class of 2016, 2017
Tijuana–San Diego, CA

Bi-national artist, Briana Trujillo moves between two places: Tijuana, Mexico and Chula Vista, CA. She is inspired by life in two cities where people migrate constantly. Her work embraces traditional fine woodworking skills but is infused with a creative and sculptural impulse.

Traveling frequently between the two countries, she draws inspiration from contrasting elements of the routine created by both nations, blending geometric styles and tones into something aesthetically stimulating to engage her viewers. Each of her pieces explores a different image of her understanding of this transborder culture. Briana tends to look for a species of wood that would have an effect on her. Most of the species she uses can be interpreted as warm, with intense color and interesting wood figure. In some pieces she tends to contrast these warm and energetic wood species with cooler or subtle wood colors like Eucalyptus, to create the contrast that exist in these two cities she lives in.
