Carving

with Paul Reiber

TBD

Instruction in relief carving, based on traditional styles and techniques, will be geared for the use of beginning and intermediate carvers. Subjects of discussion and demonstration will include materials, styles of carving, and special issues related to carving for furniture. Emphasis will be placed upon the development of designs. For beginning students, attention will be given to tool selection, sharpening, and maintenance.

Students with carving experience will be encouraged to develop more challenging designs to explore a wide range of approaches. Students will be required to provide their own tools as well as any material required for work beyond that given for the assigned projects. A list of suggested carving tools will be sent to applicants.
