Doug came here from Canada because he finds that spending time in the shop makes him better at the rest of life: he’s more patient, sensitive and compassionate. He understands woodworking as meditation – a process of familiarization with materials, tools and himself. He has started developing a therapeutic woodworking program to encourage people to explore themselves through an intimate connection with wood. He’s been inspired by his studies in Heritage Conservation at Willowbank, History at Concordia University, as well as his work with at-risk kids.
