Summer Workshops

2021 Workshops

Well, if all goes well folks we will be offering summer classes this year. Much depends on the vaccine rollout but let hope for the best. If there are any changes we will post them here.

Tools and Techniques with Jim Budlong

(WOD-70A INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING)          June 7 – June 25

Small Project Class with Jim Budlong

(WOD-70B INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING II)     June 28 – July 16

Carving with Paul Reiber                                                           TBD

Both WOD70A and WOD70B are 3 units each. For accurate costs information, go to Mendocino College’s(they are our administrators) site under the admissions section. https://www.mendocino.edu/admissions/registration/fees

In addition to course fees, an additional materials fee may be charged for each course, to cover costs of exercise materials(poplar, maple, etc), glue, shellac, and other consumables.

Specifically for the Tools and Techniques Course, you will also be required to purchase 2 Hock plane irons totaling $100, if you do not bring them yourself.

For the Small Project class you will be expected to purchase your own project materials(wood, hardware and finish).

Be aware the out of state students are required to pay both the enrollment fees and the non resident tuition. To be certain of the total cost, please contact the admissions office directly at https://www.mendocino.edu/admissions. There is also a materials fee for each Summer class.
If you are plan to take WOD-70B(Small Project), it is required that you have first completed WOD-70A(Tools and Techniques). People have requested before that they would like to skip that class, but we have found that does not work well for the student nor us. Many of you may have taken T&T with us while we were with College of the Redwoods. If so, you will need to fill out a prerequisite challenge form Prerequisite Challenge Form, and provide some proof that you took the class. (We can help vouch for you if you do not have any receipts or documentation). This may seem a bit cumbersome, but this is the price for now having the class be for credit and much less expensive.
In order to register for these classes you must first become a student of Mendocino College. Please go to https://www.mendocino.edu/admissions/new-and-returning-students and follow their instructions. Once you are a student, you can then sign up for these courses.
To register for the Carving class, contact the Community extension office https://www.mendocino.edu/workshop-registration.

Our summer courses will be listed in the Summer 2021 class schedule https://www.mendocino.edu/academics/class-schedule under Coast Center.

If you have any trouble registering please contact the admissions office at registration@mendocino.edu  or 707-468-3101.

The registration for Summer classes opens mid to late April for online registration and for in person. Go to https://mendocino.edu/admissions/registration/registration-dates  to confirm this. Registration is first come first served.

We recommend that you get yourself admitted as a student as early as possible so that registration goes smoothly. These classes tend to fill quickly.

At this time, Mendocino College is not able to issue I-20 visas to a students wishing to participate solely in the summer workshops. However international students that are already in country may be eligible to enroll in the course(s). Please contact Anastasia Simpson-Logg at asimpson@mendocino.edu or 707-468-3102 if you have questions regarding eligibility.

By offering the classes for credit, the cost has come way down for residents of California, but you will be limited in how many times you may take each class. Remember, the workshops can fill early, so register early to secure a spot!
